I haven't posted since Perth for two main reasons: 1) I've been dogged tired each night after wandering the streets of Bangkok in the heat, and 2) based on the lack of feedback, I'm not sure that anyone really cares about reading this Chit - speaking of Chit, I when to the Mo Chit station today to wander around one of the largest street markets (but that story is for another day).
For this post I thought I'd listed some of the observations/experiences that I've made/had while being in Bangkok.
1) The traffic in Bangkok is the craziest that I've even seen, even more than Paris. The traffic here in Bangkok is a mix of Lord of the Flies and Mad Max. I've seen motorcycles on the sidewalks, everyone running red lights because it was taking too long, and a motorcycle run into a bus. As a pedestrian, it's a pumped-up version of Frogger EVEN when you have the green walk light.
2) The locals are some of the nicest and helpful people I've ever met.
3) Some escalators are so fast that we were approaching escape velocity.
4) The streets are incredibly clean even though I haven't see a single trash can ANY place near a street. You have to take the trash (regardless of what it is) with you.
5) Street food is soooooo delicious and cheap! Although maybe not for you and you're Howie Mandel with germ phobia.
6) February is one of Bangkok's cooler months. I sure would melt if it was any hotter.
7) Public transportation is very good. Most of the time I'm riding in train cars where everyone is packed like sardines. To reduce PM 2.5 (particulate matter 2.5 micron) concentrations, all public transportation was free up to 31 Jan. This was the governments attempt to reduce car exhaust emissions.
8) The temples are incredible.
9) I'm here during the new Lunar Year (year of the snake) and the area is packed with Chinese tourists - especially in China Town where I had a bowl of something good at at a street "cafe".
10) There's just far too much to see in one week here.
I'm included a bunch of photos for your amusement excluding Beer phots because my Aunt Elsie scolded me for showing a beer photo.
Until next time, be safe, be kind and peace out mates.
