on thursday (o5.12.24) i made a strategic decision. i had been observing the weather forecasts for munich and the surrounding area since i had arrived. .

One thing that I've learned over the years is that the weather In the region can change day-by-day, hour-to-hour, such that weather forecasts are more like "flip a coin." That said, the weather for Thursday was predicted to be clear, sunny skies - a rarity here in the winter. And since I've been on a quest for years now to capture photos of Germany in snow, I decided to head to the Alps. I took the train to Garmish Partenkirchen and Wittenwald.

I had been to Garmish-Partenkirchen many years ago with my wife JoAnn, but never to Mittenwald. As hoped for, there were clear skies and snow on the mountains and some in the villages. Garmish is not much of a walking town so I spent more time in Mittenwald. Needless to say, the views were awe-inspiring. The very small village of Mittenwald is nestled between two mountain ridges with one mountain ridge towering so high that it eclipse the sun during the winter.

Of course I tried and I tried and I tried to capture photos, even one photo, that would reveal the majesty of the mountains and the beauty that I saw. But I failed, and I failed miserably. There is just no way to capture the beauty. One must experience it in person. I am thankful that I was able to capture an image in my mind's eye that I hope will last me a very long time.

I may have failed as a photographer, but I succeeded in seeing one of the Earth's beautiful sights.

Until next time, be safe, be kind and peace out people.
